Storing Electronics Properly
Whether you have some retro gaming systems or extra televisions to store away for a later date, all electronic equipment should be handled with care when being put into storage. With intricate systems and wiring, tossing them into a box and shoving them someplace in the dark will not result in easy, ready to use equipment. Here a few tips to make sure your electronics survive storage without any difficulties.
Prepare
Before you even begin to pack electronics away, take time to label everything. When it comes to cords, months from now you will most likely forget which black cords go with what. Cords should always be disconnected from systems when they are going into idle use for an extended amount of time. Remove any memory cards or disks from cameras or dvd players as well. Dust and clean items before storage, they will no doubt collect some dust while in storage so they will be easier to clean later without an extra layer of dust and grime to deal with.
Pack
Always try to store electronics in original packing they came in, this method will provide the most well fitted, secure environment there is for that particular item. If you cannot find the box, or it has been irreparably damaged, pack electronics in any box tightly. Instead of using paper or plastic filler, use fabric like towels instead. Not only is it softer, but won’t be susceptible to mildew growth.
Storage
Electronics do not do well in extreme or fluctuating temperatures, so be sure to find a storage solution that has consistent temperature. Albuquerque Storage has several indoor, temperature controlled units for rent that will ensure your electronics are kept in the best environment possible.
