Organizing Your Storage Unit

Congratulations! You’ve just began renting your very own storage unit. It’s time to move in all your desired personal belongings and get everything settled. Take a moment before you start lugging in boxes to plan out how to organize your storage unit. It may seem tedious and unnecessary in the beginning, but trust us, later on you’ll be thrilled your boxes and boxes of valuables have some sort of system.

Label

Maybe this takes place before you even start bringing things into your storage unit, but if you take an inventory of everything in a specific box and write it down on labels scattered on the outside of the specific box, you will never doubt where anything you are look for is stored away. If anything in the box is breakable, list it as fragile, and if you are interested in keeping things insured note how much the valuables in a particular box are worth.

Size and Weight

When it comes to using boxes to store away items, try to only use one or two varied sizes to make organization and stacking far easier in the storage unit. Pack boxes as much as you can, but never pack them with all weighty items. This can easily destroy and break their construction, and then you’ll have to start over. Not to mention it will make everything more difficult to move and access.

Space

Make sure when you are stacking boxes in your storage unit that you create space for movement and access including aisles and small open spaces to rummage through desired boxes. Keep boxes you know you will be in often in the easiest accessible places. Gain more space by dismantling any furniture pieces you wish to store away.
