Choosing the Right Mover — Part 2
At Albuquerque Self-Storage, we pride ourselves in satisfying our customers. The easiest way to fall short of that goal is to store belongings in the wrong place. Of course, this is avoidable simply by choosing Albuquerque Self-Storage. But the second easiest way to stymie a storage operation is to trust the wrong movers.
Trusting an amateur with your stuff can result in scratched bureaus, shattered glasses, and broken hearts. At Albuquerque Self-Storage we intend to protect our customers from this at all costs. Simple steps such as verifying credentials, and purchasing the right insurance can make all the difference. Below are a few helpful tips to avoid this unfortunate situation.
Verify that the Company has a Moving License
When you’re pulled over on the highway, the first thing a cop will ask you is “license and registration.” You should do the same for your moving company. The U.S. Department of Transportation DOT requires movers to secure a license in order to provide moving services. Your mover should have this license on them at all times. If for some reason they don’t, then try visiting the website www.protectyourmove.gov. On this site, you should be able to verify whether or not movers are registered properly. Any mover operating without a license is potentially at risk, they are most likely uninsured, and they money you might save is not worth the amount you put at risk.
Local or National
This decision is ultimately decided by where you are moving. If you are crossing state lines then you are required to use a national moving provider such as U-Haul. However, if you are remaining in state, a local provider should suffice and it will most likely cost less. Beware, however, that some local moving companies will hire day laborers to assist them. It is better to choose a company that has a consistent crew, with a decent amount of experience.
