Cold Weather Moving Tips

For many of us here at Albuquerque Self Storage, winter is our favorite time of the year. The brutal heat of summer abates, and a pleasant, crispy coolness descends on Albuquerque. For a month or so. And then it gets really cold. But that also means it is time for snowball fights, skiing, and hot chocolate! And time for the holidays! While winter makes all of these things a little more amazing, there is one activity it makes distinctly less pleasant. Moving. No one likes to wake up early to move when it is brutally cold out and snowing. Today, we are going to discuss a few cold weather moving tips.

Preparation is Key

The more preparation you do before moving day, the less work you will have to do in the freezing cold! If all your boxes and furniture are ready to go out the door the moment the movers arrive, your actual labor time is going to be minimal. That means less time spent out in the freeze cold. While you are at it, plan on treating yourself to some warm, delicious beverages on moving day. Who doesn’t love a warm cup of hot chocolate! Don’t forget to share with the movers.

Protect Your Flooring

This is particularly important if there is snow on the ground. You are going to be moving in and out a lot on moving day. You don’t want to tramp dirty snow all throughout your new abode. Or your old one! Lay down some old rugs, towels, sheets or a plastic tarp to protect your floors.

Don’t Pack Your Winter Gear

When you are packing, it is easy to get caught up in the excitement of the moment and next thing you know, everything in the room has been boxed! Make sure you set aside your winter gear so that it doesn’t disappear into a box somewhere. Otherwise you might end up pretty chilly and uncomfortable on moving day!
