Out of the Box Things to do with Cardboard Boxes

cardboard boxes

Cardboard boxes have many more uses than just transporting your items from one place to another, or lining the walls of your garage, filled to the brim with items you don’t need but just can’t seem to part with. We at Albuquerque Self Storage have some out of the box ideas that you can do to revamp your cardboard boxes. Read on for some creative and quirky things you can do with this household staple.

Crafts Adults Can Do With Cardboard Boxes

Even if you’re not an avid crafter or master scrapbooker, there’s still useful things you can do with a reused cardboard box.

Use it as a Planter

Skip the trip to Home Depot and instead find a small to medium sized cardboard box, poke a few holes in the bottom, line it with a plastic bag, and move some plants or flowers into the box. If you’re feeling artistically inclined, you could draw or paint a design on the outside of the box for a charming twist.

Save Your Tables by Making Cardboard Coasters

If you’re looking to save your tables from those dreaded glass rings, cut some coasters out of cardboard. Find a cup with a rim the size of your desired coaster, place it on a sheet of cardboard and trace around the edges to draw a perfect circle. Then cut out the circles, draw or paint a design, and you’re done!

Drawer Dividers

Instead of spending your hard-earned money on drawer dividers that no one will see but you, repurpose a cardboard box. Measure the inside of your drawers so that you know exactly how to cut your cardboard to get a perfect fit. Your drawers will be neatly organized in no time!

Save Your Furniture— Make a Cat Scratching Post

Anyone with a cat knows that your furniture is in a vulnerable position at all times. Here’s the good news; you don’t have to spend hundreds of dollars on a fancy cat scratching post from a high-end pet store. Simply gather up some corrugated cardboard and create a post that your cat will be sure to try their absolute best to destroy.

Cardboard Box Crafts Your Kids are Sure to Love

Help your kids harness their creative powers by showing them these simple crafts they can do with the everyday cardboard box.

Paint the Day Away

The easiest craft with a cardboard box is best done outside, and over a tarp to protect your grass or concrete. A small piece of cardboard makes the perfect painter’s pallet, and a large piece makes a cheap canvas. Let your kids’ inner painter shine, and be sure to display their work inside once dried!

Make a Fort

Cardboard boxes can be transformed into the ultimate fort. For a simple approach, cut open the top of several boxes, or create a door, and place pillows and blankets inside for a cozy sanctuary. If you’re feeling more elaborate, help your child create a house or castle by cutting out different shapes and glueing them together. If you have large enough boxes, kids can bring their own furniture in for a fun and immersive experience.

Give Your Kids Their First Driving Lesson

While your five year old can’t get behind the wheel of your car just yet, they can have a joyous time imagining hitting the open road by creating a car out of cardboard boxes. You can use paper plates to emulate the wheels and steering wheel, and you can let your child decorate their car however they see fit!

Create Tunnels and Mazes

Open up your cardboard boxes and tape them together to form a tunnel. Do this several times, and then tape the tunnels together in unexpected patterns to create the ultimate maze. Have your kids decorate the tunnels with stickers or glow sticks as they try to find their way out!
